Our 24-Hour Famine Event for high school youth was a long and successful ministry in our church and community. \u00a0Since 2005, this event has raised a minimum of $1000 per year, and some years has raised as much as $6,000 to fight hunger. \u00a0The event is aimed at bringing awareness and understanding to the issue of local and world hunger, as well as the importance of hands-on local and world community service. \u00a0Since 2005, the event has benefited a number of organizations and individuals, including World Vision, The United Church of Christ (Global Ministries), Plymouth Community Food Pantry, Eli Terry Retirement Community, and local families in need.<\/p>\n
In 2013-2018, we also started renewing our congregation’s commitment to mission\/service trips. We attended 3-5 trips to South Dakota where we worked with an organization called Simply Smiles.<\/p>\n
Our\u00a02015 Famine event was held\u00a0October 30-31, 2015.\u00a0Thank you to everyone who helped & participated! The 2015 Famine raised $2,300 and 50 lbs of non-perishable food donations for our local Plymouth Community Food Pantry.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n The 2016 Famine was held Saturday, October 29. We collected 87 lbs. of food and raised $2526 for our local Plymouth Community\u00a0Food Pantry. Thank you\u00a0everyone!<\/p>\n In 2017, we shifted the focus of our fall service project and decided to start what we call our Annual Benefit Concert & Dinner.\u00a0 In 2017, we supported CT Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.\u00a0 In 2018, we did a fundraiser for Smilow Cancer Center.\u00a0 In 2019, we supported CT Children’s Hospital. In 2020 & 2021, we postponed due to Coronavirus.\u00a0 In 2022, we raised over $5,000 for local veterans and supported Veterans Strong Community Center in Bristol.<\/p>\n In 2023, we supported our local Plymouth Parks & Rec Department.<\/p>\n In 2024, we attended a mission trip to Kentucky to help rebuild homes that have been destroyed by extreme weather.<\/p>\n In 2025, we attended a mission trip to Farmington, Maine.
